Aim and Scope
Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers addressing issues related to geology, permafrost science, biological resources (including soil, flora, and fauna), ecology, and the productivity and sustainability of Arctic and Subarctic ecosystems. Additionally, it highlights the operation of technology and equipment in northern regions.
Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources publishes articles in the following sections:
- Natural Sciences: Earth Sciences
- Natural Sciences: Biological Sciences
- Engineering Sciences: Chemical Technology, Materials Science, and Metallurgy.
Priority Areas of Editorial Policy:
- The publication of results from both fundamental and applied scientific research focused on the study of the Arctic and Subarctic regions.
- The publication of original articles, short communications, and reviews that strengthen research on Arctic and Subarctic issues.
- Promotion of collaborative research among scientists focused on Arctic and Subarctic issues.
- Enhancing the public perception of scientific endeavors.
The journal is available online in an open-access format, which promotes the dissemination of scientific knowledge and its practical applications.

Open Access Policy
This is an open access journal. All articles are made freely available to readers immediatly upon publication.
Our open access policy is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition - it means that articles have free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.

Peer-Review
Peer-review of manuscripts is carried out in order to select the most valuable and relevant scientific works. All materials submitted for publication in the Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources are subject to peer-review. The review process for articles is conducted by two reviewers, who may be members of the editorial board or invited scholars. The Editorial Board ensures high-quality review of the submitted materials, well-known domestic and foreign researchers in the Editorial Board, adherence to the principles of double-blind review.
The peer-review should objectively assess the manuscript, contain an analysis of its scientific and methodological advantages and disadvantages, an assessment of the scientific quality of the manuscript, the relevance, scientific novelty of the material, originality; scientific and practical significance of the research; the reliability of the information provided by the author; an overview of the shortcomings, the absence of plagiarism and a conclusion about publishing the article.
PROCEDURE for peer-reviewing manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board of the journal Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources
- The manuscript submitted to the Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources is viewed by the Executive secretary, who checks the conformity of the manuscript to the profile of the journal, fulfillment of the manuscript to requirements of the journal, registers and sends all materials to the editor for peer-review. The journal operates “double-blind” peer-review system.
- The Editorial Board of the journal approves experts in the fields of science, conforming to its profile, with relevant publications over the past 3 years. Information about reviewers represents confidential information.
- Experts are notified of the requirement to comply with the authors’ private property rights to the information provided in the article:
- the reviewer carries out an assessment of the manuscript objectively and according to its scientific content, personal criticism of the author is unacceptable;
- the reviewer must have sufficient qualifications to evaluate the manuscript and submit the review within the terms specified by the editors;
- the reviewer is obliged to refuse to consider the manuscript in the event of a conflict of interest with the authors;
- the reviewer has no right to use the ideas and information presented in the manuscript before its publication.
- Based on the results of the peer-review, the reviewer submits one of the following decisions for consideration by the Editorial Board of the journal:
- the manuscript is recommended for publication in the journal (without modifications);
- the manuscript is recommended for publication in the journal, subject to revision (without re-reviewing);
- the manuscript requires revision and re-review;
- the manuscript is not recommended for publication.
- If it is recommended to make changes in the manuscript, then it is sent to the author for revision. After revision, the manuscript is re-sent to the same reviewer, who makes a conclusion about the publication. The final date of receipt of the manuscript by the Editorial Office is the date of return of the revised manuscript.
- Upon the receipt of a negative peer-review, the manuscript can be sent to another reviewer. If the second review is positive, the possibility of publication is decided by the Editorial Board. Upon the receipt of two negative reviews, the article is not published and a reasoned refusal is sent to the author with copies of the reviews.
- The Editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts if the author is unable or unwilling to take into account the wishes of the editors.
- In case of disagreement with the reviewer, the author of the manuscript has the right to provide a reasoned answer to the Editorial Office of the journal. The manuscript can be sent for re-reviewing or for approval by the Editorial Board.
- The decision on the expediency of publication after reviewing is made by the Editor-in-Chief, and, if necessary, by the Editorial Board.
- The responsible secretary informs the author of the decision taken on the submitted manuscript.
- The maximum period for reviewing and making a decision by the Editorial Board is 3 months.
- Reviews are kept in the Editorial Office for five years and sent to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation upon receipt of a request.
Publishing Ethics
The Editorial Board of the Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources relies on the principles of publishing ethics according to the international rules of protection of Copyright, guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), standards of the legislation of the Russian Federation on Copyright.
The Editorial Board of the journal, being a member of Association of Science Editors and Publishers (ASEP), adheres to its principles of the publication ethics https://rasep.ru/sovet-po-etike/deklaratsiya.
Responsibility of Journal’s Authors
- Sending a manuscript to the Editorial Office of the journal, the Authors give to the Publisher a gratuitous right for its publication and placement on the web-site of the Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources http://nras.asrsya.ru and the official site of Scientific Electronic Library http://www.elibrary.ru. The Authors keep intellectual rights for their materials. In this regard the authors have to provide a license agreement to the Publisher.
- Signing the license agreement the Authors guarantee that the research is their original work, that there are references to quoted authors in the manuscript and publication sources of used materials. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.
- The Authors provide reliable results of the research. Erroneous or falsified statements are not acceptable. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.
- All persons who have made a significant contribution to the research results should be indicated as co-authors of the article. Persons who have made a concomitant contribution to obtaining scientific results can be acknowledged in the article.
- All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed and indicated in the manuscript
- If there is a conflict of interest, it must be indicated in the article with explanations of the Authors.
- The Authors also submit an expert opinion of the organization within which the research was done on the possibility of its publication and the absence of information with limited access.
Responsibility of Journal’s Editors
- The Editorial Board ensures objective peer review, compliance with the principle of confidentiality when working with any materials submitted to the journal, exclusion of copyright infringement and plagiarism, and coercion to cite journal materials.
- The basic principle of working with the authors is respectful attitude to the authors and their manuscript, understanding of their requirements and wishes; objectivity and fairness when deciding to publish a manuscript.
- The Editorial Board makes a decision on publishing materials, guided by the policy of the journal, solely on the basis of their scientific value.
- The final decision to publish a manuscript or to refuse it is made by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
- The Editorial Board guarantees that the materials of the rejected manuscript will not be transferred to third parties or used by the members of the Editorial Board.
- The Editorial Board does not consider manuscripts in the presence of a conflict of interest. The Editors promptly consider each ethical claim to publications. If the validity of the claim is confirmed, a correction, refutation or other relevant statement is made.
Responsibility of Journal’s Reviewers
- Decision on manuscript publication is accepted by the Editors only upon the recommendation of the Reviewers.
- The Reviewers carry out an expert assessment of the manuscript objectively and evaluate the manuscript only on its scientific content.
- The Reviewers should have sufficient qualifications to evaluate the manuscript and provide a review within the terms specified by the Editors.
- The Reviewers have no right to use the ideas and information contained in the manuscript before its publication.
- The Reviewers are obliged to refuse to consider the manuscript if they have a conflict of interest with the Authors.
Responsibility of Journal’s Publisher
- Protecting the publishing ethics of the Editorial Board.
- Prevention of plagiarism and publication of fraudulent data.
- Willingness to publish corrections, clarifications of deviations or retractions.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
Plagiarism detection
Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources use native russian-language plagiarism detection software Antiplagiat to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.
Preprint and postprint Policy
Prior to acceptance and publication in Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources, authors may make their submissions available as preprints on personal or public websites.
As part of submission process, authors are required to confirm that the submission has not been previously published, nor has been submitted. After a manuscript has been published in Arctic and Subarctic Natural Resources we suggest that the link to the article on journal's website is used when the article is shared on personal or public websites.
